What it’s really saying

• Emotional triggers reveal unmastered territory.

• If someone can reliably “push your buttons,” they don’t control you—but they can predict you.

• Power is lost the moment reaction replaces choice.

Why people push back

• Because it feels like blame during pain.

• Because it ignores context unless you read it correctly.

Important nuance:
Acknowledging loss of control does not excuse the other person’s behaviour. Two things can be true at once:

• They acted badly.

• You still owned your response.
